Social and Economic Impact
There is no question that immigrants have had an enormous part in making America what it is today. Immigrants have had a vast impact on the United States; both in regards to social aspects as well as economical aspects. As far as social aspects are concerned, it is not difficult to see that America is filled with diverse people from different places that bring extraordinary ideas, visions and marvelously unique cultures to the United States. According to the article written by Daniel Griswold (2002) the economy has been greatly impacted by the immigrants. Daniel Griswold writes:
Immigration gives the United States an economic edge in the world economy. Immigrants bring innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit to the U.S. economy. They provide business contacts to other markets, enhancing America’s ability to trade and invest profitably in the global economy. They keep our economy flexible, allowing U.S. producers to keep prices down and to respond to changing consumer demands. An authoritative 1997 study by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) concluded that immigration delivered a “significant positive gain” to the U.S. economy. In testimony before Congress last year, Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan said, “I’ve always argued that this country has benefited immensely from the fact that we draw people from all over the world.
The statement above reinforces the notion that immigrants have done much for this country (by ways of entrepreneurial-ship and bringing with them ground-breaking ideas to enhance America’s economy).
America is a great country with much diversity. It attracts people from all over. These immigrants bring new ideas and culture with them. It is this large collection of ideas, and cultures that make America the land of opportunity that made so many individuals migrate to the United States in the first place; this still continues today. America would not be what it is today if it were not for the immigrants that have made their sacrifice to migrate to the United States of America.
